Oceans-ESU Ltd. has achieved the quality standard ISO 14001.
What Is ISO 14001?
- ISO 14001 provides a framework for environmental management and allows it to be integrated into overall business management.
- ISO 14001 requires an organisation to identify its effects on the environment and than decide how it will improve environmental performance in order to reduce its environmental impacts.
Why have an EMS?
- Because we are all environmentally aware and want to reduce our environmental impact.
- Because increasing public environmental awareness has lead to the adoption of EMS by blue chip companies e.g. Sony, Ford, Toyota, IBM and Volvo have made a public commitment to ISO 14001 in order to gain a greater market share and public confidence.
Although we do not necessarily sell to the general public, part of ISO 14001 is 'supplier assessment' which requires suppliers to decrease their environmental impact through EMS.
So, if they have ISO 14001, we remain competitive by having it too.
In addition
- There are bottom line financial benefits through waste reduction and energy saving
- There are potential financial benefits through long term land contamination insurance or loan terms
We gain a better position when dealing with regulators through knowing that environmental issues are managed in a professional manner.
